A Scout is thrifty, well, 6,379 Scouts were thrifty.

December 6, 2011

Congratulations to the Scouts in the Mid-America Council! We had more than 6,379 Scouts fundraising for their own programs and supporting operating the whole council. Our Scouts sold nearly $3.5 million worth of popcorn! That means $1.2 million directly benefited individual Scouts, helping send them to camp, buy supplies for Scouting and do the things that they love the most about Scouts. Furthermore, the Mid-America Council netted more than $1 million that will directly benefit all of the Scouts in our council. Money raised from the popcorn sale helps offset the cost of operating camps – the #1 reason kids join Scouting. It also provides training opportunities for Scouts and leaders, helping them gain advantages for today and the future.

If those benefits weren’t enough. This year’s campaign contributed over $122,000 worth of popcorn in support of our local military families as a way of saying thank you for their service to our country. And one more thing. The popcorn campaign is helping send 192 Mid-America Council Scouts to college through the scholarship program. To date, our Scouts have earned more than $70,000 towards their college educations.

Thank you to all the Scouts and Scouters who made this campaign possible. It’s so exciting to see the numerous benefits that the Scouts receive through popcorn sales. To order popcorn online now, click here.
