Camp Cedars Camp Director Announced!

December 20, 2011
Camp Cedars
The long awaited announcement of Camp Director for Camp Cedars 2012 is finally here! A familiar face will be returning to Cedars and continuing a legacy started just two years ago…. Cindy Cone is coming back as Camp Director in 2012! Cindy first joined Camp Cedars staff in 2010 as Camp Chaplain, and immediately felt like a veteran of Cedars’ past. In 2011 Cindy took the role of Camp Director and performed admirably! We were all saddened to hear she would be moving to Arizona at the end of last summer, yet somehow the lure of Camp Cedars has brought her back for another round. She has a vast knowledge of summer camp, and we will be blessed to utilize it in 2012. We are all excited about what the upcoming summer has in store, and that it will be led by the one and only Cindy Cone!
Located on the south bank of the Platte River near Fremont, Nebraska, Camp  Cedars is home to Mid-America Council’s Boy Scout summer camp. It also hosts three sessions of Webelos camp and our Wood Badge training.
Camp Cedars, which comprises the western half of the Covered Wagon Scout Ranch, is located approximately three miles northeast of Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. It has been Mid-America Council’s principal long-term Boy Scout resident camp since 1939. Cedars consists of 360 acres of wooded hills and meadows on the bluffs overlooking the south bank of the Platte River.

Camp Cedars features a heated pool with a shower house, accessible to the physically challenged; air-conditioned HunTel Systems dining hall, seating over 500; the Bates Amphitheater with space for over 1,000 campers; a shooting sports facility featuring the Protzman Arena and a the Scott Family Shotgun Range; and the Dixon Family Nature Center.

Other facilities include the Smith Administration Building, Scott Director’s Cabin, Karp Pavilion, Rotary Shelter, Millard Resource Center and Order of the Arrow building.

Twelve campsites provide 264 permanent tent platforms, including the Armstrong McDonald wheelchair-accessible campsite, for Scouts and leaders.

Camp Cedars also boasts the premier Challenging Outdoor Program Experience (COPE) in the mid-west and a lake for canoeing, rowing and fishing. Thanks to Roger Pentzien, our lake was dredged in 2000 and restocked with several species of fish. Camp Cedars also features a rappelling tower, 60-feet high, with climbing walls – the highest tower in the BSA!

Buildings and facilities at Cedars may be rented when summer camp is not in session. Contact Scouter Services at the Durham Scout Center for more information 402.431.9272.

Our summer camp season consists of six weekly sessions of Boy Scout camp and three, three-day sessions of Webelos camp. Cedars is also home to our Council’s Wood Badge Course.
