Five young men, Tim Faulconer, Sam Martin, Justin Murphy, Jimmy Nugent, and Todd Schlegelmilch from Troop 91 of Soaring Eagle District received their Eagle Scout awards June 30, 2013 during a shared Eagle Scout Court of Honor at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn, NE.

Distinguished Eagle Scout and former Mayor of Omaha, Hal Daub, served as guest speaker.  Thora, a live American Bald Eagle, graced the ceremony with her presence and handler, Kay Neumann, from the Iowa Raptor Society, “Saving Our Avian Resources” (SOAR).

The Eagle Scouts have enjoyed participating in various troop activities and camping outings over the past five years as members of Troop 91.  Martin, Murphy, and Nugent have been fellow Scouts since elementary school as members of Cub Scout Pack 753 in Elkhorn.  All five have fond memories of working together on various Boy Scout merit badges and requirements.

As  Eagle  Scout  candidates,  each  planned  and carried out an Eagle service project.  Faulconer constructed a “Nature Playground”, split rail fence, and benches for Schramm Park State Recreation Area.  Martin restored and painted fire hydrants in the Riverside Lakes development in Waterloo, NE.  Murphy constructed two storage cabinets which benefitted Hillrise Elementary School in Elkhorn and Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn.  Nugent constructed a patio and grill station for Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Elkhorn.  Schlegelmilch constructed a Frisbee golf course/prayer labyrinth for Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn.

The Eagle Scouts and their families are thankful for the countless volunteer hours provided by Scoutmaster, Mr. Jay Davenport, and past Scoutmasters, Mr. Jay Wingler, Mr. Greg Ernst, and Mr. John Lindell.  Mr. Ted Green serves as Eagle Scout Advisor for Troop 91.  Curt and Alejandra Oran serve as Troop Committee Chair and Troop Advancement Chair.

The Mid-America Council is honored to congratulate these five new Eagle Scouts!
