Pinewood Derby Fun!

May 5, 2014

Pinewood Derby Fun!

Cub Scouts, families and Pinewood Derby cars came from 38 states, including Hawaii and Guam, to race in the Mid-America Pinewood Derby sponsored by Greg Young at CLAAS of North America in Omaha, NE. Racing began at 10:30 a.m. on all three tracks.

Check out photos of the event here!

Track #1 – Scout Track included separate divisions for oil and graphite lubricated wheels.
Track #2 – Kids & Adult Track included Open divisions and Best of Show for both youth and adults.
Track #3 – Pro Track included Pro Stock Division, Modified Division and Pro Bearing Division.
All divisions included design award voting and best of show voting. Activities included the LEGO Race – Scouts built their own cars out of LEGOS and raced on their own track! Scouts and adults also enjoyed the Derby Evolution – a Pinewood Derby Clinic presented by Steve Redrup, a professional Pinewood Derby builder and racer, and the Pro Pit Stop set up to help Scouts and families build fast Pinewood Derby cars.

Pack 565 hosted the snack bar featuring soda, chips, hot dogs, pizza, fresh-made cotton candy, water, and apples!

From the youngest babe in mom’s arms to a nearly 80-years old Grandma, (her words) to Tiger Cubs through Webelos 2, to adults who shipped their Pro Division cars to Greg Young from afar – EVERY ONE had a wonderful experience at the Mid-America Pinewood Derby!

If you missed it this year, make a note on your calendar to attend next year. You and your entire family will remember what a fun time you had forever!

Thanks to Greg Young, CLAAS of North America, Pack 565, Creighton Baseball, Star Wars Storm Troopers, Lee Terry, Eric Magendantz, Mike Evano, and everyone who helped make this such an amazing event!
